Ian Wharmby – Expert Witness

Ian is a Registered General Nurse, Occupational Health Nurse and Rehabilitation Nurse Specialist with over 30 years’ clinical experience. He is also a Registered Psychotherapist with an active caseload providing support services to staff on behalf of an NHS Trust in the North West.

He compiles full care, aids and equipment and liability reports for Jane James & Associates on behalf of Claimant and Defendant clients as well as undertaking specific psychological assessments. His medico-legal caseload includes; orthopaedic injuries, chronic pain, and psychological injuries specifically PTSD, anxiety and depression. He has undertaken Expert Witness training via Bond Solon.

Previously Ian has been responsible for providing rehabilitation reports and case management services to one of the UK’s leading insurance companies through a private health consultancy. This has involved conducting occupational health assessments for claimants and liaising with employers and third party treatment providers regarding their health and rehabilitation needs. He has extensive experience of assisting individuals’ return to meaningful employment.

He has clinical experience in a variety of disciplines including rehabilitation case management and occupational health, intensive care, both general and neurological surgery, general medicine, and orthopaedics and he also has experience of clinical teaching and lecturing to students in the UK and abroad. He has maintained his hands on clinical nursing skills within his practical occupational health role, undertaking necessary statutory training and continual professional development.
