A DAY IN THE LIFE OF... Tissue Viability Lead Nurse Lorraine Jones
A window into the clinical world of our liability expert witnesses.
STRATEGIC QUALITY IMPROVEMENT
In my role as the Tissue Viability Lead for two busy integrated trusts, I focus on strategic quality improvement by auditing and supporting initiatives that enhance service quality. I monitor and review all incidents related to tissue viability harm, ensuring that our services take appropriate action based on the lessons learned. If recurrent themes are identified, I hold staff accountable and work to analyse these patterns to inform our improvement efforts. This often involves innovation, shared locally and nationally, and the preparation of reports to present to senior leadership.
ENHANCING PATIENT CARE THROUGH EDUCATION
I lead the submission of the Black Country wound formulary and collaborate with colleagues to implement best practices. We consider cost analysis, evidence, and sustainability plans associated with any proposed changes. Additionally, I prepare trust coroner statements that explain the care provided by our trust.
A significant part of my role is to assist our legal team with litigation responses and, at times, liaise with NHS Resolution to agree on outcomes. I also support services in responding to tissue viability-related complaints. Furthermore, I lead and monitor education initiatives related to tissue viability to enhance skill development and produce care pathways that optimise best practice.
