Meet Rachael Flynn
Meet Rachael Flynn, the latest Occupational Therapist Expert Witness to join the JJ&A Team.
Rachael Flynn is a highly experienced occupational therapist - her specialist areas of experience include complex neurological conditions (acute and long term across the lifespan), complex/challenging case management, neurological rehabilitation, cognition, the Mental Capacity Act, and palliative/end-of-life care.
EARLY LIFE & EXPERIENCE
Rachael was born in Northumberland (where her twin sister still lives) and brought up in Northumberland and Bradford, West Yorkshire.
Before qualifying as an occupational therapist, Rachael worked as a therapy assistant in the challenging and emotive environment of brain injury rehabilitation.
After attaining a BSc in Occupational Therapy from York St John University, Rachael joined the NHS gaining valuable experience in palliative care, acute stroke, ITU, trauma, orthopaedics and community rehabilitation.
A MOVE TO WALES
In 2018, Rachel moved to Anglesey and spent four years working with adults and children in social services for Anglesey Council. This community-based role was largely focused on the assessment, case management and rehabilitation of clients with complex needs and long-term neurological conditions.
Rachael enjoyed this community-based role and coordinating complex cases from diagnosis to end-of-life. No two days were the same as she oversaw symptom management, major adaptations and equipment and rehabilitation.
DEDICATED TO PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Rachael is currently completing her Masters in Principles of Clinical Neuropsychology which combines her interest in neuroscience with her passion for learning. A core part of the course has focussed on assessing and rehabilitating a wide range of neuropsychological conditions in adults and children.
The course has strengthened Rachael’s understanding of neuropsychological disorders (acute and long-term across the lifespan), and their basis in neuroanatomy, genetics, neuropathology and their impacts on individuals and their families.
IN HER SPARE TIME
Rachael likes to be active. So, when she’s not studying or working, she likes to spend time in the Scottish hills with her partner and their two Collie dogs. She also loves travelling (particularly Peru), surfing and riding her Triumph Bonneville motorbike. She is also learning to play the drums.
Rachael works for Jane James & Associates as an independent expert witness taking instructions from both Claimants and Defendants for full care reports, aids and equipment reports/occupational therapy reports.
