Bio:
Susan has over 30 years' experience in both general and mental health nursing. Her specialities lie within head and brain injury rehabilitation, acute psychiatry, and learning disability services. She is a nurse prescriber and has a special interest in chronic pain management post trauma. Susan has experience working in the UK and the USA.
Susan’s current role as a case manager involves leading multidisciplinary assessments and care planning for the long-term residential rehabilitation and home returns of clients with brain injury and psychiatric disorders. Her position takes responsibility for reviewing multi-disciplinary team reports, co-ordinating the necessary home assessments, adaptations and required input, and ensuring clients and their families are engaged in the process throughout.
Prior to her role as a Case Manager, Susan worked as a senior nurse in a Complex Care Unit, taking responsibility for the assessment and care planning of admissions to the unit. This included clients with both acquired cognitive impairments and traumatic brain injuries. She also headed the Complex Case Discharge and Onward Care Planning Group, planning and accessing resources for complex care patient discharges.
In addition to her UK practice, Susan has gained valuable experience in the United States. In her role as a Clinical Director, she took responsibility for commissioning services for care provision and oversaw the financial management of care providers within US brain injury units.
Susan works for Jane James & Associates as an independent Expert Witness taking instructions from both Claimants and Defendants for full care reports and aids and equipment reports.
