Bio:
Sara is an experienced Registered General Nurse, with almost 30 years of neurosurgical experience across a number of varied roles including staff nurse, ward sister on both neurology and neurosurgical wards, night sister, and later as a clinical nurse specialist within neurosurgery.
Sara is currently employed as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner in Neurosurgery with the specific role of managing and ensuring the quality care of patients who require CSF (Cerebrospinal Fluid) diversion treatment. She is also a non- medical referrer for imaging and an independent non-medical prescriber. Sara practices safe clinical decision-making, expert care, assessment and diagnostic skills. Sara also utilises critical and analytical judgment processes developed during her MSc in Advance Practice to effectively plan, implement and evaluate the clinical management of individual patients.
Areas of clinical expertise include acute cranial neurosurgical nursing, and advanced nursing practice. She has a specialist nursing interest in Chiari malformation including complex syringomyelia, CSF dynamics and complex hydrocephalus and their management. She also acts as a clinical advisor for a national charity which supports patients with this complex diagnosis.
Clinical governance, audit of current practice and management of change to clinical practice and procedures are integral to Sara’s current role. She has extensive experience in investigating and reporting on clinical incidents, providing formal reports and opinion to the trust executive team and is responsible for writing and implementing local policies and guidance, ensuring compliance at both a clinical and corporate level.
In addition, Sara has been a visiting lecturer for two local universities teaching students on masters level courses for a number of years.
As an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, Sara can recognise and exercise accountability for professional judgments within the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
Sara works for Jane James & Associates providing neurosurgical Breach of Duty reports and is instructed on behalf of both Claimant and Defendant firms.
