NEW ADMINISTRATOR JOINS THE TEAM
Please meet Julia Davey, the latest member to join our administrative support team. Julia joins us as our new Data Entry Administrator, bringing with her a wealth of administrative knowledge and experience. You can learn more about her in the short 2-minute read below.
EARLY LIFE
Julia was born and raised in Wiltshire after her parents moved from London to Southwick, Trowbridge in the 1960s.
After leaving school in the 1980s, Julia started work as an administrator for a building company in Westbury. At that time, the tools of her trade were a desk calculator, a pencil and a ruler! Julia enjoyed her job and quickly adapted to her role, learning how to provide efficient administrative support.
WILTSHIRE COUNCIL BECKONED
In 1998, Julia joined the Area Finance Team at Wiltshire Council, rising to the position of Senior Finance Officer.
In 2000, still with Wiltshire Council, Julia moved to a team responsible for reviewing services for individuals with learning difficulties, provided by the council and external suppliers. In this role, she served as an administrator overseeing accommodation and employment.
By 2016, Julia had become a joint commissioner tasked with assessing the services needed for people with learning difficulties. She collaborated with external providers to set up reviews and make necessary adjustments to enhance the services available to the most vulnerable populations. Additionally, she worked with council contracts and the teams evaluating the value and efficiency of the services, ultimately taking on the responsibility of re-commissioning these services.
In 2019, the department underwent a restructuring. Julia felt it was the right time to leave and opted for early retirement in December of that year to spend more time with her ageing mother, whom she sadly lost during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
NOT CUT OUT FOR EARLY RETIREMENT
Julia needed something to occupy her time, as her husband was still working. She soon realised she was bored and not cut out for early retirement. To combat this, she accepted a job with Tesco, where she handled their online orders. Julia thoroughly enjoyed the work, but it had one drawback - very early morning starts.
After about six months, the early mornings began to take their toll, and Julia left Tesco to work for a property company. In this role, she researched everything a homebuyer needed to know and created conveyancing packs for people buying and moving into new homes. Julia loved this work and stayed there for three years until the business was sold to a larger property company that did not share the same ethos as her previous employers.
ALONG CAME THE PERFECT ROLE
As luck would have it, she saw JJ&A’s recruitment advertisement on Indeed and felt she would be a good fit for the position. After an interview with HR and Talent Acquisition Manager Karen Ferris and Training and Development Coordinator Charlotte Doel, Julia began working at JJ&A in April 2025.
As Julia explains,
“What I found most appealing about the role at JJ&A was the flexibility. The part-time hours allow me to work from home, providing me with the freedom to manage my family commitments. The work is interesting and aligns perfectly with my previous experience in administration. Plus, I appreciate feeling valued and working as part of a small, family-like team."
IN HER SPARE TIME
Julia enjoys spending time with her husband of 22 years, Mark, her Parsons Jack Russell terrier, Ollie and her grown-up daughter, Vicky. She also loves to get out and meet people, which is why she’s been an Avon representative for several years.
For the last 12 years, Julia has volunteered at the West Wiltshire Child Contact Centre, a charity that helps separated families spend time together. She is currently their Centre Coordinator and finds the work rewarding, especially when families successfully move on.
Now that both Julia and her husband work part-time, they enjoy dog walking, travelling (especially cruises), and have been fortunate to visit the Caribbean, the Far East, America and Canada. In 2027, they plan to visit Japan.
They also enjoy taking road trips in their convertible car. They have driven the NC 500 in Scotland and are planning an east coast UK road trip later this year.
Julia has a passion for reading and gardening, enjoys visiting historic places and loves watching Formula 1 motor racing and tennis at Wimbledon.
